General Portfolio of Tina Macnaughton freelance illustrator.
I work predominantly in soft pastels which can be a difficult medium but at the same time wonderfully flexible. Pastel paintings also are best done on the larger side. Tiny detailed work is best avoided. Once the image is finished it has to be treated with great care – so no spilling tea over it! A typical pastel painting, for example a double page spread, can take from 1 day to 2 days to complete depending how many characters and fussy bits there are. A simpler image like a vignette of one character can take a few hours. A typical picture book with twelve spreads, endpapers, title page and front/back covers can take 2-3 months.
I’m always experimenting with different mediums and new crazy little characters. If you’re interested in talking to me more about a project, I’d love to hear from you.
