The First in a Limited Edition Print Run of 250 (1 of 250)
From the latest Little Hedgehog series of books (book 13) that have sold over two million copies worldwide, Little Hedgehog and friends heading up a steep snowy path to Grandpa squirrel’s house.
When Little Hedgehog and friends encounter Squirrel, like the good friends they are, they help Squirrel take all his packages to Grandad Squirrel’s house. As he lives on Rocky Ridge we wanted him high up in the mountains with amazing views. We added in trees and flecks of grass as we did not want it to look too remote or bleak. We spent a bit of time trying out different designs for Grandad’s house. I did originally think a twisted old bristle cone tree, but it did not look classic fir tree enough so we scrapped that. Its so much fun to think about squirrel architecture. Illustration can be such a fun job! We settled on a whopping great fir tree which I loosely based on a giant redwood. I did not want Grandad Squirrel to live in a pokey twig like tree in his old age. Lets give him something grand to retire in. If I were a squirrel this is what I would want…..squeeeeeek!
